New Members

Rolling enrollment is open for the fall semester at Kairos Music Academy! Kairos rehearses at Epworth Church in Berkeley from 4:15 to 6:15 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our Open Rehearsals are opportunities for young singers to play games, meet new friends, learn some songs, have questions answered, and get a sense of what we’re all about! All are welcome, and no previous musical experience is necessary! Just bring a willingness to learn and an appetite for snacks!

Auditions

• Students ages 9 and up are expected to prepare a short musical piece. Kairos values creativity and openness to musical direction more than perfect vocal technique, so no need to stress about what to sing. Just pick a song you’re excited about sharing. You’re welcome to bring along sheet music for our pianist, or sing a cappella. If you’re coming for an open rehearsal, you can wait and schedule an audition for a future rehearsal.
• Note – we understand the audition may be a bit daunting for our youngest singers, and thus an audition is not required for singers 8 years old and younger.
• We have found that students do best when with their peers, rather than in a one on one setting. Auditions take place in a warm and welcoming environment, in small groups with students learning group exercises, repeating short melodies and rhythms, and singing their selected song for their peers.
• Based on their willingness to learn, attitude, and musical aptitude, students will be placed into one of Kairos Music Academy’s choirs/ accepted with reservations/ or advised to wait and apply again. Regardless of outcome, students and families will be told the results of their audition before the end of their time slot.

What To Expect: 

Kairos rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 to 6:15 pm at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1953 Hopkins St, Berkeley, CA 94707. Twice a week attendance is encouraged, especially for the upper choirs. We are happy to discuss this with you!

Fall season includes participation in our winter holiday concert and several exciting performances. Kairos welcomes all families, and offers several need-based scholarships. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
